The Air France flight AF 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris is missing. The Brazilian Air Force already started the search and rescue proceedings. There was 216 passengers and a crew of 12.
The plane, an Airbus A330, disappeared from the radars, and should have landed at Roissy - Charles de Gaulle airport at 11h15 local time (6h15 at Brasília time). The plane wasn't detected by radars at the Salt Island, located half-way between Brazil and Europe.
According to international treaty, Brazil is responsible for the Atlantic airspace. The search began at sunrise, from Fernando de Noronha Island in the course to Salt Island.
An Air France spokesman would have said that has no hope of finding survivors.
